Compared to other NLS solutions, OutBoard provides a 100% SAP embedded approach, which keeps the system landscape simple, easy to maintain, and easy to administer. This is achieved by using effective data compression technology directly within the SAP BW system’s database and ABAP™ stack – no additional hardware or software is required. OutBoard‘s compression rates range from 8:1 up to 20:1, depending on the database system and the type of data, enabling you to achieve significant improvements in database sizes.
With NetWeaver 2004, SAP provides an interface for data lifecycle management implemented in the form of an ABAP objects class. The OutBoard kernel implements the SAP NLS interface and all technical functionality required for storing and compressing BW data. This way, the solution is fully integrated and usable for standard SAP BW interfaces, reporting, and transactions.
The OutBoard Cockpit is a unique, single point of entry for all OutBoard NLS administrative activities. Its analysis function detects data volumes and data volume distribution, enabling you to identify which data, and how much data to move to NLS. The Cockpit also allows for reporting on the data volume and NLS compression ratio of data within OutBoard’s storage area.
